| What are your opinions on the electoral vote? Is it unnecessary now? Discuss. _________________ "Music is the silence between the notes" - Claude Debussy "One shot, one kill. No exceptions." - Thomas Beckett

| i've only ever heard one person defend the electoral college on the grounds that it gives low-population states a slight increase in power because of the rounded up number to decide electoral votes. he was president of the college republicans. |

| it gives them a slightly higher representation than they would have in the popular vote due to the rounded decimal in determining congressional representation. |

| Take this election, for instance. The popular vote wasn't far off... but the electoral vote was almost a landslide. It is the same thing as with the 2000 election. I just think it's not a very accurate system, and we should start going with popular vote. It just makes more sense. _________________ "Music is the silence between the notes" - Claude Debussy "One shot, one kill. No exceptions." - Thomas Beckett

| i just want to throw out there that its nothing like the 2000 election...obama won both the popular and electoral handidly. bush barely won the electoral by political maneuvering that had the supreme court overstretch its authority and lost the popular vote...hardly the same. not that im necessarily in favor of obama...but lets get facts straight. |

| You're right. My point is that there is usually a difference in proximity between electoral and popular votes. I don't think this election was close enough by any means to think the electoral vote was the only reason Obama won. |

| I guess I haven't been following it. Last I really saw the results it was Wednesday, which I think they were only a few million, not almost 10 million. _________________ "Music is the silence between the notes" - Claude Debussy "One shot, one kill. No exceptions." - Thomas Beckett
