(CNN) -- A Virginia woman whose husband and daughter were gunned down in last week's terror attacks in India says the attackers should be forgiven.

"We must send them our love, forgiveness and compassion," Kia Scherr told reporters Tuesday of the Mumbai attackers, nine of whom were killed by Indian forces. "As Jesus Christ said long ago, they know not what they do.

"They are in ignorance, and they are completely shrouded and clouded by fear, and we must show that love is possible and love overpowers fear. So that's my choice."

it's awful what happened. my response to this would be that she's right, it is a choice. we can't change circumstances in our lives, but we can choose how we respond to them. especially when people are watching us. we can choose to portray Jesus Christ or give in to sinful negative emotions such as hate. nothing she does can bring back her husband and daughter, but being hateful and vindictive toward the perpetrators is not the answer.

this is her chance to let the Lord's light shine through her. i applaud anyone who chooses love instead of return hate for hate. Jesus showed us this by His example, of course. take a BIG person to do that though. well...maybe not... just one with God's love flowing through their heart.

Man. That blog pisses me the fuck off. Rahg.

I think this is beautiful. I actually saw the article before it was posted. It's getting some publicity. That's really good. The amish response to the shooting years back didn't get that much.

But that blog... ugh.

Indeed. Whether it's utter atrocities or complete forgiveness, it seems "religion" can't win Wink

Of course, that some people are getting angry over her response demonstrates to me that it's the right one. Woe only falls upon those of whom all people speak well.

I remember a conversation I had with a friend a while back. She was saying to me that she didn't really see the point of forgiveness being talked about in Bible study groups, because it seems like a non-issue and the Bible is quite clear on forgiveness.

I completely disagree with that, because while the Bible's stance on forgiveness is a non-issue, many Christians and churches have a distorted idea of what it is. I would say that for the most part, the church has a concept of forgiveness akin to the people who have commented on that blog; Forgiveness is for interpersonal and emotional situations only, not mass murder or anything like it. That is the point when forgiveness ends and vengeance begins.

Have these people not read the scriptures? Forgiveness has no end whatsoever, at least it doesn't in the way God commands it to be given. Forgiveness is not a non-issue as far as the church is concerned, as long as she keeps conforming to the patterns of the world and lending her complacent support to its police, military strategies, and detention centre "justice." The one thing that those blog posters are right upon is that this woman's concept of forgiveness is a very dangerous thing. Fuck yeah, it's dangerous. But by God, it's right.

Thats great that they forgive the terrorists. What a hard thing that must be to do.

The attacks are so sad. I was reading about them the other day. Sad
