I watched like 10 minutes of Stranger than Fiction and was done with it. Maybe I should give it another try.

mhm, you should at least try! it was a lot more serious than you would expect. I enjoyed it.

I'm usually not a terribly huge fan of "serious" movies, really. Or many movies at all, really...

I actually liked Stranger Than Fiction. Definitely one of his strongest roles. But Ricky Bobby > all of his other roles.

Around the Christmas Tree

There’s no table set for Christmas
nor great smells throughout the house.
No more happiness and laughter.
Now it’s quiet as a mouse.

Goldie loved this joyous season
but this year it’s not to be.
Those days are all behind her.
God is calling her to leave.

Colored lights made the rooms festive.
Decorations filled every space.
All the wonder of a child
brightened up my mother’s face.

She made curtains gay and cheery
and put holiday rugs upon the floor.
One manger was never enough
there were always two or more.

Goldie cherished all her statues.
Smiling snowmen held little birds.
She liked penguin music boxes.
Christmas tunes were all we heard.

No more sitting ‘round the table
like friends and family loved to do.
No cookies nor stuffed cabbage
in her cozy dining room.

We won’t be opening presents
with lots of fun on Christmas eve.
I’ll miss the sign she made with love
for her son: “Welcome Home Steve”.

No more standing at her doorstep
waiting for my kiss goodbye.
And I won’t be driving home with
gifts and leftovers piled high.

I will treasure all these moments
of times never again to be.
Goldie’s love made Christmas special
around the Christmas tree.


speaking of taking all the cheer i can get, last night guy i work for
gives me a 1976 french bottle of wine, and today, another lady i work for
gives me an old but never opened bottle of scotch! ole'

i guess sad stories really do have happy endings.
